Mike has suggested a topic thread for people to post where they are in the world so that we can meet up if we're ever local and available. Walter, Susan and myself have met up locally and we always have a good time so I can recommend it

Is it worth starting a topic thread for this or are our members too spread out globally? What does everyone think?

cheers,
Pipster.

I'm always uncertain of this - it has its pros and cons. In one way it is dividing the forum and building clicks. Yet it does mean that those that live near each other could plan days or trips out. What might come out is the regional areas or localised areas can be used by other as a source of photographic trips or sites if they are ever in the area. How would you set up the areas taking into account there are global members as well.

It sounds great in principle but I also hear what Walter is saying.
What would be great is to organise a couple of group meetings (maybe even a short workshop) but again where?
I'm all for trying new stuff to keep the site moving if it's of interest to members.
Just my 2Cents.

Rather than spliting things into regions make it a general events and places of interest forum where people can post if they are planing a day out and can invite people who live localy to come. Or put forward ideas for places to vist if they have been to anywhere of note. Rather than spliting things into regions make it a general events and places of interest forum. People could make suggestions then act on them depending on the response.
Dunno if that makes sense but I know what I mean.

Hi Nanny Ogg, that makes perfect sense to me and seems a good idea. It would mean that everyone has the opportunity to take part whether they live thousands of miles from the nearest member or just down the road.

We all travel at some point, whether in our own countries or abroad, and so it would be a nice idea if people had somewhere they could say this is where I live. If people don't want to or can't meet up, they can still always say, "if you're in the area this is a great place to visit" or "whatever you do, don't go there!"

The show & tell thread is a bit like that already, but is more of a showcase type of thread rather than a specific location or advice thread. I would envisage that it would be something along the lines of using the location in the title... for example, I live in Perthshire, so would just call the topic 'Perthshire, Scotland'. That way people in months and years ahead can just search for the location they are visiting. Or, if I was travelling say to Italy I could post a topic with the title 'any advice for trip to Italy?'

Is that the sort of thing you were thinking Annie? I think that it would still serve the purpose that Mike suggested but at the same time avoid the issues that Walter raised. It would be inclusive for all members rather than making anyone feel isolated because they live so far away from other folks. What does anyone else think?

Simon, you know I'm full on for group meetings or short workshops. I think it's a great idea and I'm sure will work well but, again, it won't be possible for everyone to join in. Maybe as the site grows, then people who feel isolated by distance now will find that there are more people joining in their area and that they can run group meetings or workshops if anyone there wants to do it.

This sounds like a nice idea.
So what do you want to call it? "Where in The World?"
Should we have a seperate one for proposed Meet N Greet Days?

Yes Rebecca something like that.
Perhaps an Out and About/meet one. Where you could say i'm going to milton keynes to see the snowmen does anyone want to come. Another with places of intrest. If you say started one about Perthshire if other people had been to other interesting places there they could add to it or I could perhaps start one of places of intrest around Yorkshire. The guys across the pond could start a thread based on their area. Where in the world would suit that well.

That sounds good to me... two separate threads, one for day trips and events and one 'Where in the World' for places of interest.

I think it's worth saying that the day trips and events one would not be just for those of us in the UK. Wherever you are in the world it will be worth posting events in your area. People may well be on holiday or working abroad, or will know others on holiday, and if there is an interesting event nearby then it would be good to know about it.

I like it - mind you I was a bit taken aback at the title "Shoot or Socialise" but then my weird sense of humour breaks in when I see titles like that. I've put in the mandatory warning that the Scots are coming in that forum. I also like the idea of using at as a forum fro giving advise of sites to see or avoid, perhaps some of the lesser know sites of the beaten track at that, like your Piggy Lane farm - there was so many photo opportunities that the place would need time to explore properly.

These images look fantastic by the way keep posting anything new.

Hey,

Just wanted to say thank you, your vods are very good, am enjoying them immensily...Your work is spectacular!

The one suggestion i have would be a vod dedicated to the different selection techniques within Photoshop...what they are and how to use them ...

Thanks again

Paul
